Dr Digi: Grumpy Old Man Club

Hello crafty friends!   I'm here today with my Dr Digi post.  Someone was celebrating their 50th birthday and just like women, men don't like getting old either.   I created this mixed media canvas to welcome this man to the "Grumpy Old Man Club" at 50.

The image is Happy Hour Horace and he is enjoying his dark ale..lol.  I also used Grumpy Sentiments Sheet for the sign.   Horace was colored with my Prismacolor pencils, the sign was colored in Photoshop to the colors I wanted.  I used an 8x10 canvas for my project.  To create the background, some stencils with molding paste was used, then sprayed with inks, with the finishing touches of gold and silver ink.  The gadgets around are metal and chipboard, that were gesso first, then sprayed and painted.

I added these charms to remind what we need to do with our lives.  Sometimes we are so hooked in keeping up with the "Jones", we forget to live the lives that really matter to us.  These metal charms were fingered painted with rub-n-dub paints (which is fun to use).

Dr Digi: Change is a Good Thing

Hello crafty friends!  I'm here today with my Dr Digi post.

This is Mystic Mabel, she knows that we get into ruts and it's hard to change a routine.  Mabel is letting you know that "Change is a good thing" and it good lead to a better life.  Some times we need to break out of habits to see that things could be better and/or fun.  The image is colored with my Prismacolor pencils.  I really don't know why the background looks too pinky here, but it's really not.  It should be reddish/orange.

Here's the inside.

Mix It Up! Challenge Blog #12: Bleaching

Hello crafty friends and Happy Easter!  I'm here with my last post of today for Mix It Up! Challenge Blog.  Trying out new techniques can be fun and scary sometimes, but you should always try to learn something new.  This month's challenge is all about Bleaching.

Yes, I had to Google and YouTube this challenge.  I needed to see all the different ways people used bleaching in their craft making.  I feel like dipping your stamps directly into bleach would be harsh on the rubber, so I did the stamping, embossing, bleaching technique.  I did a couple of different colors of ink and different types.  The 1st one I used distressed ink, it looked good until I wanted it darker and just mess the whole thing up.  Trying to re-create it was a disaster.  So, I changed inks and went with Memento inks.  Used versa mark for the image, then embossed it with clear embossing powder.  I have a water pen, that I filled with the bleach to use on the inside of the images.

Here's the inside.

Love to Craft! Challenge Blog #21: Hero Warrior

Hello crafty friends!  Today is my 3 blog post for all the sisters challenges, so sit back and enjoy this new month of craftiness.

This post is for Love to Craft! Challenge Blog, as always...Anything Goes.

I colored this image in monochromatic colors based off the Kit and Clowder Mixed Media class.  I love the class image, but wanted to used a different image for the project I had in mind.  Besides, it gives me an excuse to use another Saturated Canary image (Honor) from Krista Smith.

After I colored my image, I tackled the 8x10 canvas (the class uses 5x7).  The project is base off the class, but modify for the size and what I had on hand.  I did order a kit with some of the embellishments used in this canvas, but also used lots of things from my own stash.    The tissue paper position on top was first determined and the I used stencils (yes, I've been gathering stencils to use now), to created texture with molding paste.  Ink pads and paint for the background and embellishments.

One of the paints used was a shiny platinum.  I used it on the background as well as the embellishments and it gives it a beautiful shine and metal look.

Heart Be Your Compass

Hello crafty friends, Happy Easter & April's Fool!!    It's a brand new month already, that's no joke!!!  I'm excited to start this month as a Guest Designer for We Love 2 Create challenge blog.  If you like to do mixed media work, this challenge is for you.  You'll want to check out the inspiration from the other DT members...amazing.

This is my first post for today, but there will be my usually 3 post of sisters blog in a few short hours.

I created a mixed media canvas using Polkadoodles image Skys the Limit.  I purchased the bundle kit "Top Banana Winnie Celebrations Kit 2", but you can buy just the image itself.  The image will perfect for a little girl with big dreams.  In fact, I made it for a little girl in mind....who has some big dreams at a young age.  I colored the image with my Prismacolor pencils.

The first thing I did was ink the blue sky on the canvas, but I wasn't quite happy with it.  I put some scripted tissue paper over it to soften it up some and give it a dreamy look.  Next, I laid down my stencils, it okay to use the molding paste to spread here and there to give the canvas a rough and uneven look.

Next, I sponged some distress ink around the canvas and painted some soft white over some of the scripted areas.  I felt she needed some more clouds in her sky, so die cut clouds out of cardstock, became my stencil for those puffy clouds. The flakes are from an encrusted jewel kit of embossing powders and elements.

Here are a few of the items I used to create this canvas.  Even the embellishments were painted, inked, and sprayed to keep harmony.  The "Archival" spray is great to preserve those images that will be proudly displayed.  This one is made for colored pencils.

A little bit of silver paint was added here and there for shine and depth.
